A Colorado buyer can have an A+ BBB grade without being accredited. Another may have a strong customer-review average on Google and only a short history at its local branch. Keep each measure in its own column. Combining them into a single impression can hide the details you actually wanted to check.
Read the labels beside the numbers
A BBB letter rating is different from a customer-review average. Accreditation is another status again. Record each field separately rather than compressing them into a single “BBB score.” If a comparison page does not distinguish these measures, visit the source yourself before relying on its summary.
Check the identity and dates
Match the website, address, phone number, and any alternate legal names. Note the business start date and accreditation date separately. A business can have a long operating history and a more recent accreditation date. An owner can also describe experience that predates the current company. These distinctions are worth clarifying without assuming either claim is false.
Treat missing information carefully
A business that is not accredited is not automatically untrustworthy. A profile marked not rated may explain that there is insufficient information. A search that finds no matching profile is not proof that no profile exists. Keep the wording precise. BBB itself notes that it does not endorse businesses and that not every business seeks accreditation.
Bring it back to the purchase
Even a strong public record does not establish the terms of your agreement or confirm available funds. Ask who will buy the property, which conditions remain, and how the closing will be handled. Use the BBB profile as one part of the identity and history check, alongside reviews, references, the company’s responses, and your attorney’s review of the contract.
Put it into practice
- Record rating and accreditation in separate fields.
- Check alternate business names and the profile’s dates.
- Do not turn a missing rating into a negative factual claim.
